About Us

One of the most important things to know about Tust Studio, even beyond where we have learned our craft is that we are a small company. So when you hire us, you get us, not people hired to do our job for you. We've learned from some the best in the field. The knowledge and skills we have some are not even being taught anymore and its getting harder to find the information in books. Often we are called on a to match faux finishes, decorative finishes, woodgrain new windows to match vintage graining or surrounding wood finishes, restoration, custom work and color matching. Throughout San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Area we are just two of an ever dwindling list of artists that know the age old arts.  Many of the artists whom we have learned from are long retired or retiring soon.  We plan to be around a long time. We also teach classes to share the knowledge taught to us.

Michael started the business in 1988 doing interior painting. In 1993 he attended The Paperhanging Institute in New Jersey. This 2-month course was over 350 hours of installing custom wall covering. In 1995, his wife Laura joined him in the company, and they expanded to include decorative painting. Laura attended the portfolio classes from George Zaffle, Gale Laurence and the Day Studio.  From 1995 to 2001 Michael traveled throughout the United States to learn from many respected artists. In 2008 Michael went to France for 4 months to further his talents.
