In the Graining 1 class at Tust Studio, students will create four texture boards that contain up to six textures on each board, which will train the students eye and hand in positive and negative space, positive and negative grain lines, color, positive and negative heart grain, choosing basecoats. Many different tools will be used to create the panels. When the texture boards are completed, students will create panels of Mahogany Heart, Walnut Heart, Birds Eye Maple (with Heart Grain), Quarter Sawn Oak (with straight grain) and Walnut Burl. After taking this course students will have learned how to see the different layers of texture and color in woods, as well as how to imitate shapes and markings. Students will leave having the confidence to paint their own faux wood projects.
