Mr Woodard YOL-25-43
This frame was extremely damaged. There were huge splits in the back board which ran through the carved moldings all the way to the corner details. The cracks went straight through to the back. Causing the cracked areas to be uneven. Careful repair of the cracks required some cutting to release the sprung moldings so the could carefully be pulled back to match. Each of the corners were damaged, some pieces were entirely missing. There were no radiating arms on any of the corners and there were none to make a mold of. So the arms were hand made with clay on one corner and a mold was made from those arms to put on the rest of the corners. Once all the pieces have been cast and made, the entire frame will be regilded and a patina applied to age it.
The orginial frame did not have any decoration or indication of what may have been at the top and sides of the front of the frame. There was just football shaped spaces were the pieces were at one time. Your museum currator Sarah brought down a frame made by the same artist that was in very good condition, we took a mold of the decoration on that frame and made apliques and attached that design to the missing spaces.
