This is one of a pair of frames. On the edges a small decorative detail had broken off in several places which also damaged the gesso underneath. The edge had a few small pieces that were missing. Along all the side edges there was a black painted detail that was chipped and damaged. The new molding pieces were attached along the edge where they were missing, then the spaces left where there was broken gesso were filled and everything was matched to the existing frame finish. Along the edge where the black paint detail was, several coats of black gesso were applied after some filling and repairing. There is a photo of both frames side by side when they had both been repaired.
